Continuities from adolescence to adulthood in drinking patterns have been observed across a range of measures including frequency of consumption and heavy drinking.

Earlier initiation of alcohol use (prior to age 15) has been associated with increased risk for alcohol–related problems later in life (Grant and Dawson ).Alcohol consumption and alcohol-related problems among women have long been a focus of concern and often the targets for prejudice and distortion.

This book brings together a wide range of contemporary and historical evidence on the consumption of alcohol and its associated adverse consequences and benefits amongst women.

Broad in its perspective, it does not concentrate solely .Other behavior problems associated with alcohol use include rebelliousness (21), difficulty avoiding harm or harmful situations (22), and a host of other traits seen in young people who act out without regard for rules or the feelings of others (i.e., disinhibition) (23–25).
